Broken Ring

While most were celebrating Valentine's Day and some boycotting it, I instead found that my wedding ring had cracked. It started as a hairline crack. Then I took it off to see how bad it was and it just crumbled apart.

This was very likely because I never took my ring off, even when I went to the gym. It never happened to my other ring... but that's probably because the other one was a gold ring and gold is malleable. This is white gold and it couldn't sustain my body weight when I did chin-ups or when I did 60kgs deadlifts.

I quickly dropped an e-mail to Poh Kong enquiring if it could be fixed. Within a few hours I got a response stating that it could be fixed at any of their branches. The following day my wife took it to branch located at AEON Jusco and had it fixed in an hour, FOC. Impressive.

The ring fixed... acceptable for FOC. Maybe we'll send it in again one of these days for reshaping and re-plating. My wife and I choose not to succumb to any superstitions... whatever it may be. Our future lie in our hands with Allah's blessings.

  1. You’re right about not taking this as superstition. The ring broke because you wear it all the time. It’s not only the push-ups in the gym that caused the crack. The white gold softened due to exposure to chemicals like chlorine. You probably don’t take it off your finger when you go for swimming in a pool, or when taking a dip in your bathtub.
